ChatGPT-User
OpenAI documents ChatGPT-User as a fetch made because a person asked the assistant to retrieve a page. It is still a machine request, not a browser visit.

What Motif will and will not claim
Motif classifies ChatGPT-User as family openai, class user, only when the request hits the tracker or collector. That hit is a crawler observation. It does not create a visitor.
Revenue
Revenue from the assistant is the human click whose document referrer is chatgpt.com or chat.openai.com. Mixing ChatGPT-User into sessions inflates 'assistant traffic' with machines.
Vendor documentation
Start with the vendor page at https://platform.openai.com/docs/bots. IP ranges, when published, are at https://openai.com/chatgpt-user.json. Motif stores the controlled token, not a proof that the remote IP sat in that list.

Does ChatGPT-User count as a visit in Motif?
No. If ChatGPT-User hits the Motif tracker or collector it increments AI crawlers. It does not create a visitor and cannot win a recommendation.
Will Motif show ChatGPT-User on my HTML pages?
Only if that client requested /m.js or POST /v1/events. HTML-only crawls of the origin never reach Motif. Saying otherwise would be a product lie.
Should I block ChatGPT-User?
User-requested fetchers often ignore robots.txt because a person asked for the page. Blocking them in robots.txt may do nothing. They are still not visitors in Motif.
