Track Gemini traffic
Gemini referral traffic and Google Search are not the same referrer. Motif keeps gemini.google.com on ai_assistant so a Gemini citation is not folded into organic.
What counts as Gemini traffic
A pageview whose referrer host is gemini.google.com. Source gemini, medium ai_assistant, first touch stored once.
Google AI Mode traffic
Google AI Mode can sit on google.com search. If the person arrives from google.com, Motif stores organic, not Gemini. A gemini.google.com click is Gemini. An AI Overview with no click is invisible to a JavaScript tracker.
What stays organic
A visit from google.com search is organic. Search Console, if connected, explains queries and pages as aggregates. Motif does not attach a query to a Gemini visitor.
Google AI crawlers
Google-CloudVertexBot that hits the tracker appears under AI crawlers. Google-Extended is a robots.txt token, not a User-Agent Motif can see. Neither is a Gemini visitor.
