Track Perplexity traffic

Perplexity referral traffic is the click. The bot that fetched your page to write the answer is not. Motif ranks the person, then the payment.

The human click

A pageview referred by perplexity.ai is source perplexity, medium ai_assistant. First touch stays Perplexity even if the visitor later comes from brand search.

Two Perplexity fetchers

PerplexityBot is search indexing. Perplexity-User is a user-requested fetch. Both are crawlers if they hit the Motif tracker. Neither is a visitor. A Chrome pageview with a perplexity.ai referrer is still the human channel.

Why the split matters

Mixing answer-engine fetches into sessions inflates 'Perplexity traffic' and starves the ranking of paying humans. Motif keeps them on separate series.

Does Perplexity-User count as a visit?

No. Perplexity-User is a crawler user-agent. Motif counts it under AI crawlers when it hits the tracker. A person clicking a citation is the visit.
