GEO vs SEO vs AEO
SEO still sends people from search engines. GEO and AEO try to earn assistant citations. Motif's job is to keep those introductions from collapsing into last-click Direct.
SEO
Search engine optimization is still crawl, index, rank, click. Motif attributes google.com search as organic. Optional Search Console import explains queries and pages as aggregates, never attached to a visitor.
GEO and AEO
GEO names ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini. AEO names answer engines, often Google AI Overviews. The useful split is not the acronym. It is whether a person arrived, and whether they paid.
Three structural differences
Assistant retrieval weights extractable answers and schema more than classic link graphs. Training-corpus presence has a multi-month lag SEO does not. Zero-click answers can hide demand that never becomes a session. Motif cannot see a zero-click. It can see the click that did happen.
Do not replace SEO with GEO
Blocking Googlebot to 'focus on GEO' is not a strategy Motif will recommend. Organic search remains a first-touch channel. Assistants are additional channels. The ranking decides which one earned customers this window.
Is AEO replacing SEO?
No. Assistants add a surface. They do not retire crawl-and-rank. Motif will show both Google-organic and assistant first touch on the same chart, with direct remaining visible and unable to win.
How is GEO different from SEO inside Motif?
A google.com referrer is organic. A gemini.google.com referrer is Gemini. A GPTBot hit is a crawler, not SEO and not GEO traffic. The product refuses to fold those together.
GEO vs SEO vs AEO: which one should I buy a dashboard for?
None of the acronyms is a ranking. Buy a join from assistant click to Stripe. Citation share-of-voice scanners answer a different question Motif will not pretend to.
